Obituary: Thomas A. Jordan


Long-time banker was dedicated to his family

UNION, Ky. - Thomas A. "Buzz" Jordan, a vice president with Erpenbeck Co. and president of Provident Bank's Northern Kentucky unit from 1991 to 1995, died Wednesday of a heart attack at his home in Triple Crown Country Club. The longtime banker was 55.

"As a banker, he always went out of his way to help people," said his son, Patrick of Edgewood. "He was an honest, hard-working businessman who never had a bad word about anyone or anything."

Patrick Jordan and his sister, Laurie Hansen of Hebron, said their father was generous and had a strong work ethic.

"He was dedicated to his family," Mrs. Hansen said. "He was friendly and had a great sense of humor."

Born in 1947 in Covington to Thomas E. and Mary Catherine Snyder Jordan, he graduated from Covington Catholic High School in 1965. He earned a bachelor's degree in business from Thomas More College in 1970.

While in college, Mr. Jordan began his banking career at Covington Trust and Banking Co. In 1975, he was promoted to vice president, installment loans. He moved to Huntington Bank when Huntington bought Covington Trust in 1985 and served as vice president.

In 1988, he left to work for Fifth Third Bank. In 1991, he joined Provident Bank, where he was president and chief executive of Provident Bank of Kentucky until 1995. In 1996, he became the vice president of administration of the Erpenbeck Co., Edgewood.

His career included helping Covington police apprehend a bank robber in 1975. The man had stolen $3,000 from Covington Trust and Banking Co., where Mr. Jordan was assistant vice president.

In addition to his son and daughter, survivors include three sisters, Mary Ann Baker of Williamstown, Mary Rita Jordan of Walton and Mary Kay Fleming of Crescent Springs; a brother, William of Albuquerque, N.M.; and one grandchild.

Visitation will be 2-6 p.m. todayat the Middendorf-Bullock Funeral Home, 917 Main St., Covington. A Mass of Christian burial will take place at 10 a.m. Monday at St. Pius X Church, 348 Dudley Road, Edgewood.

His body will be interred in the Mother of God Cemetery in Fort Wright.
