Top 25: Arizona looks like No. 1

TUCSON, Ariz. - No. 1 Arizona lived up to the preseason hype and then some in its opener. Freshman Hassan Adams scored 16 of his 22 points in the second half to lead seven Wildcats in double figures in a 107-68 rout of 19th-ranked Western Kentucky on Saturday.
The Hilltoppers, also playing their opener, committed 28 turnovers against Arizona's trapping, pressing defense.
The Wildcats blew open an 18-4 lead and were up by as many as 32 points in the first half. Western Kentucky trailed by as many as 42 and never got closer than 24 in the second half.
Rick Anderson scored 14 for Arizona, all in the first half, and Jason Gardner added 12, all in the second half. Luke Walton had 12 points and seven assists, Will Bynum scored 12 points, Channing Frye added 10 points and nine rebounds, and freshman Andre Iguodala had 10 points. David Boyden scored 26 for Western Kentucky.
No. 3 Texas 81, Stephen F. Austin 55 AUSTIN, Texas - Brandon Mouton scored 18 points and James Thomas added 13 points and 15 rebounds for Texas.
The Longhorns (2-0) made 10 of 37 3-pointers in their home opener, outrebounded Stephen F. Austin 52-33, held the Lumberjacksto 31 percent shooting and forced 20 turnovers.
Percy Green led Stephen F. Austin (0-1) with 14 points.
No. 5 Pittsburgh 82, Duquesne 67 PITTSBURGH - Pittsburgh, opening a season in the Top 5 for the first time in 15 years, overcame a below-average game from star Brandin Knight to pull away from stubborn city rival Duquesne.
The first men's game in the $96.4 million Petersen Events Center was unexpectedly tight for much of the game in a rivalry that has been anything but close.
Julius Page led Pitt with 17 points, and Knight had 13. Jimmy Tricco and Brad Midgley each had 13 points for Duquesne.
No. 6 Duke 101, Army 53 DURHAM, N.C. - Freshman Shavlik Randolph scored 23 points as Duke improved to 21-2 in openers under coach Mike Krzyzewski.
Dahntay Jones and freshman J.J. Redick each had 14 points, and Daniel Ewing added 10. The Blue Devils forced 27 turnovers, and hit 13 3-point field goals. Joey Payton led Army with 10 points.
No. 7 Oklahoma 82, Princeton 63 NORMAN, Okla. - Ebi Ere scored 19 of his 27 points in the first half, leading Oklahoma to the Sooner Invitational title
Ere's jumper in the lane started a 15-0 run that gave Oklahoma (2-1) 22-9 lead midway through the first half and Princeton (1-1) got no closer than seven the rest of the way.
Jabahri Brown added 14 points and Hollis Price had 13 for the Sooners. Andre Logan led Princeton with 16.
La.-Lafayette 79, No. 12 Mississippi St. 76 STARKVILLE, Miss. - Brad Boyd scored 33 points and hit a 3-pointer with 1:12 left to put Louisiana-Lafayette up for good as the Ragin' Cajuns beat Mississippi State.
Mississippi State played its opener without star center Mario Austin, who is being held out pending an NCAA ruling on his eligibility. Timmy Bowers led the Bulldogs with 22 points.
No. 14 Connecticut 91, Quinnipiac 72 STORRS, Conn. - Ben Gordon scored 22 points and had three steals as Connecticut remained perfect in 17 home openers under coach Jim Calhoun.
Emeka Okafor added 16 points, 12 rebounds and three blocks for Connecticut. Rob Monroe led Quinnipiac with 15 points.
No. 16 Marquette 80, Texas-San Antonio 68 MILWAUKEE - Dwyane Wade scored 22 of his 32 points in the first half as Marquette beat Texas-San Antonio to win the Pepsi Blue and Gold Classic for the fourth straight year.
Scott Merritt added 13 points, and Robert Jackson had 12 for the Golden Eagles (3-0). Ike Akotaobi scored a career-high 24 points, 21 in the first half, and LeRoy Hurd added 22 for San Antonio (1-1).
No. 18 Georgia 87, Belmont 71 ATHENS, Ga. - Jarvis Hayes scored 19 points, including 11 in a 22-5 second-half run, for Georgia (1-1).
Chris Daniels had 16 points in his debut after a one-game suspension for playing in an unsanctioned charity gam.
Adam Mark led Belmont (1-2) with 29 points.
No. 25 Tulsa 71, New Mexico St. 61 SOUTH PADRE ISLAND, Texas - Dante Swanson scored 23 points as Tulsa opened the season with a victory in the South Padre Island Roundball Invitational.
Jason Parker added 21 points, and Kevin Johnson had 19 for Tulsa. Brandon Mason had 17 points for New Mexico State (1-1).
