NKU women rout host Findlay


No. 6-ranked Norse capture Tip-Off event

Connie Myers scored a career-high 20 points Saturday as Northern Kentucky University defeated Findlay 86-52 at the Findlay (Ohio) Tip-Off Tournament.

Myers, a sophomore forward, made 10 of 14 field-goal attempts and had five assists for NKU (1-1).

Jessica Brock came off the bench and added a career-high 15 points and nine rebounds for NKU, which is ranked No.6 in the Women's Basketball Coaches Association's NCAA Division II poll.

NKU led 40-29 at halftime after shooting 51.7 percent from the field. Kristin Polosky scored all 11 of her points in the first half, and Brock had eight.

In the second half, Myers scored 14 points as NKU coasted past the Oilers (1-4).

Myers earned all-tournament honors for the Norse, who will open Great Lakes Valley Conference play at 1p.m. Saturday against Quincy at Regents Hall.

Miami 77, Valparaiso 55

Princeton High graduate Kim Lancaster and Jana Butler scored 15 points each to propel the RedHawks over Valparaiso in the Spartan Chevrolet Classic in East Lansing, Mich. Miami faces Michigan State in today's 2p.m. championship game.

Central State JV 33

Kendra Bailey scored 15 points to pace the undefeated Lady Surge (5-0) past the visiting Central State Jayvees.

Hope 78, Mount St. Joseph 60

Hope (2-0) shot 45 percent from the field en route to winning the title in the Franklin Savings Tipoff tournament. Virginia Grace led Mount (1-1) with 13 points, while Tasha Reid chipped in 12.

Wilmington 90,

Thomas More 51

WILMINGTON - Megan Woodruff scored 22 points and Tara Rausch chipped in 19 as Wilmington (2-0) routed Thomas More (1-1). Holly Roberts, Jodi Schroeder and Joanna Bess paced Thomas More with eight points each.

Mount St. Joseph 74,

Baldwin-Wallace 71

Tom Luther scored a game-high 30 points to help the Lions improve to 2-0 and win the Franklin Savings Tipoff tournament. Chris Washington contributed 17 points. The Mount shot just 6-of-21 from 3-point range but outshot Baldwin-Wallace 24-14 from the free-throw line.

N.C. Wesleyan 81,

Thomas More 73

NORFOLK, Va. - North Carolina Wesleyan (2-0) survived a second-half surge from Thomas More (1-1). Kyle Booth led Thomas More with 15 points.

NKU 90, Kentucky St. 65

The Norse (2-0) put five players in double figures as it shot 61 percent. Mike Kelsey led NKU with 23 points. NKU shot 11-of-19 from 3-point range and went 21-of-40 from the free-throw line.
