Kept from recruiting off-site until Feb. 5

Half of the Miami-Marshall controversy has been resolved.
Miami officials announced Monday the penalties assistant coach Taver Johnson will face for damaging the coaches box during the RedHawks' 36-34 loss to Marshall. Miami still has to deal with defensive coordinator Jon Wauford, who is accused of hitting a Thundering Herd fan after the game.
Johnson will pay for the damages and will not receive a pay increase next year. He also must undergo anger management at his own expense, make a written apology to Marshall, and apologize to the RedHawks team and staff in person.
Johnson admitted to causing the damage, which included a broken countertop and two holes in a wall. He will remain suspended with pay until Saturday and will be kept from off-campus recruiting until Feb. 5.
RedHawks head coach Terry Hoeppner is satisfied the incident is behind Johnson.
"Professionally, this won't affect him," Hoeppner said. "He learned a very hard lesson. This was very painful for him, missing the (Central Florida) game, especially the way we played."
Johnson, 30, a CAPE graduate, has been on Miami's staff for three years.
"Good sportsmanship has been the hallmark of Miami University athletics since the university was founded," university President James C.Garland said. "We are proud of our reputation and resolve to be worthy of it."
Wauford remains suspended with pay while his case is investigated.
