Steger resting after appendectomy

University of Cincinnati President Joseph Steger had an emergency appendectomy Friday.

School officials say the longtime president, who recently announced his decision to retire in June, felt pains in his abdomen at 3 a.m. and went to University Hospital Medical Center at about 10:30 a.m.

Doctors operated several hours later.

Dr. Steger was resting at the president's home Monday and is expected to be back at work next week.
