Diocese workers, retired Ohio priest indicted
By Paul Singer The Associated Press
CLEVELAND - A county grand jury has indicted a retired priest and six Roman Catholic diocese employees on sex abuse charges, the prosecutor announced Wednesday.
A total of 11 people were indicted on charges that include sex abuse, rape and compelling prostitution.
Cuyahoga County Prosecutor William Mason said the Rev. Daniel McBride is accused of soliciting sex with a minor. He previously was placed on administrative leave.
The Cleveland diocese had no immediate comment.
The indictments follow a six-month investigation into allegations of child sex abuse in the diocese. The grand jury was asked to decide whether to indict any of about 100 priests or 260 others connected with the Cleveland diocese who have been accused of sexually abusing children. Jurors heard testimony twice a week for the past two months from police, prosecutors and people who say they were abused.
The six workers are employed at Parmadale Family Services, a treatment center for emotionally disturbed children.
