Shannon Engine Support, the engine leasing unit of CFM International, has signed a 10-year deal to provide spare CFM56-5B engines to TAP Air Portugal.
CFMI is the joint venture of GE Aircraft Engines and Snecma Moteurs of France.
The engine spares lease agreement for TAP's fleet of 27 Airbus A320 jetliners is just the latest in a string of recent deals for Shannon.
They include a three-year deal with Hola Airlines for CFM56-3 engine; a five-year agreement with Spanish carrier, LTE , for CFM56-3B engines; and a five-year agreement with Air Seychelles for CFM56-7B power plants.
With the slump in commercial aviation, GEAE is putting more emphasis on increasing its engine services to maintain earnings.
Shannon, the third-largest spare engine leasing company, has more than 50 customers worldwide, CFMI says.
Lean lessons win second major award
TechSolve's Lean-Pathways program, a process for implementing lean techniques among supplier networks, has won its second major award for its work with Boeing Co.'s SLAM-ER missile supplier development team.
This week, the program, led by Susan Moehring, received the Defense Manufacturing Excellence Award in the large company-team category from the National Center for Advanced Technologies.
Last month, it received a similar award from the Excellence in Missouri Foundation.
Using the Pathways approach, a team of Boeing suppliers worked for 15 months to improve support to Boeing's Standoff Land Attack Missile-Expanded Response (SLAM-ER) missile program and in their own operations.
Boeing is the prime contractor on a Navy program to convert its missiles into the expanded capability version.
