LOUISVILLE-SOUTH ALABAMA First-year South Alabama coach John Pelphrey doesn't catch himself quoting his former college coach, Rick Pitino, around his new team.
"I don't repeat the things he said because everything he said always had, 'What do you think you're doing, Pelphrey?' behind it," said Pelphrey, who played for Pitino at Kentucky from 1989-92.
Pelphrey will hear Pitino screaming again on Saturday today - just not at him. His Jaguars (3-2) visit Louisville (1-1), where Pitino is coach.
Pitino said it's meaningful to play against team coached by a former player.
"An ex-player is something special because you had so many moments where you watched him grow up and watched him improve his basketball skills," Pitino said. "You love to see them blossom into coaches and lead other men."
ST. JOHN'S The case of forward Grady Reynolds, who is accused of throwing a female student against a wall in a dormitory bathroom, was adjourned until Dec. 24. Reynolds was charged with third-degree assault and second-degree harassment, and released on $500 bail.
