Reality shows have covered everything from home decorating to choosing a spouse. Now they are going into the closet. The Learning Channel is starting a 10-part series What Not to Wear, with a preview 10 p.m. Jan. 18 that focuses on people in need of style makeovers. (The original BBC shows begin at 7 p.m. and 10 p.m. today.)
Each hour focuses on one person nominated by friends or family for a complete style overhaul. The host and stylists confront the poor soul and teach him or her what not to wear, sorting through their wardrobe and giving them basic rules for their body type, lifestyle, etc. Armed with these guidelines and a $5,000 budget, the participant is sent shopping and reports back. The show is produced by BBC Worldwide for TLC.
Faux fame: Donna Salyers' Fabulous-Furs of Covington, has made it into the national press once again. The new issue of US Weekly with Mariah Carey on the cover features a Fabulous faux-covered hot water bottle in the shopping section. The faux wizard says the magzine's editors requested and shot 10 items, and she was a little disappointed that nine were edited out. But she says they assured her "they're holding them for use in future stories."

ETC trunk show: ETC will have a trunk show of the Tribal Truths collection of New York designer Brenda Brunson-Bay at noon Saturday. The coats, jackets and capes are described by the designer as "Afri-cenfusion centered in African design and silhouette but reaching out to fuse with all other elements." Trinidadian artist Khali Kwodwo Keyi's handmade jewelry, masks and other wearable ornaments are also featured. 6085 Montgomery Road. 924-1382.
Shoe drive: Your slightly used or newer shoes can be worth $10-$30 off a pair of regularly priced shoes at the Walking Place, Rookwood Commons, through Dec. 22, and you'll be helping the less fortunate. The Euro comfort store will give donors a discount for each pair of men's or women's shoes "traded in."
