From donating a crane for erecting light poles at Glen Este football stadium to fixing the Armstrong Chapel's leaning steeple, construction superintendent Clyde Jack Janson was always willing to help.

"He was a very loving and kind man who was well-respected in the community. He was always helping his friends. If somebody's house burned down, he was the man to call," said his son, Dr. David Janson, of Pierce Township and Piqua.

Mr. Janson died Friday at Hospice of Cincinnati in Blue Ash of lung and brain cancer. The former Anderson Township resident was 71.

Raised on the west side of Cincinnati, Mr. Janson left high school during the Depression to help support his family - which included his five siblings.

A talented carpenter, he began working for Frank Messer and Sons Construction Co. in the late 1940s.

In 1952, he left to begin working as a carpenter for Foley Construction Co., where he was promoted until he was made project superintendent in 1959.

As project superintendent, Mr. Janson was responsible for big jobs like construction of the water intake system for the California Water Works.

Mr. Janson retired in 1986, but eventually went back to work with his own company, which was responsible for the repairs of the Armstrong Chapel steeple.

Besides his son David, survivors include his second wife, Marlyn Janson of Anderson Township; two daughters, Pamela Janson of Anderson Township, and Elizabeth Johnson of Atlanta; two sons, James of Union Township, and Michael of Anderson Township; a brother, Glen of Dent; and two sisters, Delores Walker and Mary Jo Janson of Dent.

Visitation will be from 7-9 p.m., Friday at the T.P. White & Sons Funeral Home, 2050 Beechmont Ave., Mount Washington, and from 8-9 a.m., Saturday at the Anderson United Methodist Church, Beechmont and Forest roads, Anderson Township.Service will be at 9 a.m. Saturday , at the church.

Burial will be in Mount Moriah Cemetery. Memorials: Hospice of Cincinnati, 4310 Cooper Rd., Cincinnati, 45242
