Boothe powers XU women past Indiana St.

Freshman Tara Boothe had 17 points and 10 rebounds, her second straight double-double, as Xavier defeated Indiana State 78-65 Saturday at Cintas Center.

Sophomore forward Alexis Henderson totaled 16 points and nine rebounds, and senior Amy Waugh added 15 points for the Musketeers (6-1), who overcame 16 turnovers.

Nikki Wells scored 11 points and grabbed nine rebounds for Xavier, which finished with a 40-38 edge on the boards. Reetta Piipari had 10 points and a game-high eight assists for XU.

Kourtney Mennen scored 19 points to lead the Sycamores (3-1), who made only 36 percent of their field goal attempts (27 of 74).

Lindsay Galbraith had 12 points for Indiana State.

Xavier shot 90 percent from the foul line (18-for-20).

Tasha Reid scored 16 points as the Lions remained perfect in Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference games this season.

The Lions held the Beavers (0-7, 0-3) to 19 percent shooting (6 of 32) in the second half.

Melissa James had 10 points and six rebounds for Bluffton (0-7, 0-3).

Mike Leimeister totaled 18 points and 12 rebounds for the Beavers (2-6, 0-3), who shot 14 percent (2-of-14) on 3-point tries.
