Teen arrested in parents' killings

The Associated Press

OKLAHOMA CITY - A teenager wanted in the shooting deaths of his parents in Kentucky was arrested by Oklahoma City police after trying to run from officers Monday morning.

Blake Peterson Walker, 16, was arrested by two officers who were patrolling a "shantytown" area frequented by homeless people, said police Capt. Jessica Cummins.

The officers came across a car with one person inside and license plates matching those of the one connected with the killings of Brian Walker, 54, and Barbara Peterson, 55, Capt. Cummins said.

"When they approached the car, he was asleep in the front seat and there was a large knife next to him," Capt. Cummins said.

No other weapon was recovered, Capt. Cummins said.

The officers woke Blake and asked him his name. He gave a false name and said he was en route to Arizona, Capt. Cummins said.

"The officers asked him to step out of the car and began to pat him down, that's when he took off running," Capt. Cummins said.

"The officers had to chase him and wrestled him to the ground and handcuffed him."

Blake was later taken to the Oklahoma County Jail, where he was awaiting extradition.

The bodies of his parents were found Dec. 9 in the basement of their home in Knifely, Ky., after police were tipped by two of Blake's high school friends.

Police said last week they believed Blake - a Boy Scout, model student and athlete - might have fled to Texas in the days following the slayings.

Last week, officials at Hanover College in Indiana called off classes because of fears that Blake might come in search of his brother, who is a student at the school.

An autopsy determined Brian Walker, who worked in construction and was a former Peace Corps volunteer, was shot once. Ms. Peterson, a teacher at Lindsey Wilson College, was shot multiple times.

Police said a rifle was used in the killings. No motive has been released.

Blake Walker was charged on Nov. 15 with driving under the influence.
