BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - An adult film that features Indiana University students engaged in sex acts with porn stars was selling briskly after hitting X-rated video stores Thursday.
"I don't think our duplicator can copy them fast enough. It'll be probably our biggest seller ever," said Calli Cox, who stars in Campus Invasion and serves as spokeswoman for its maker, Shane Enterprises of Van Nuys, Calif.
The film crew's October visit to a Bloomington dorm triggered a police investigation - but no criminal charges - an indignant response from administrators and disciplinary charges against two students.
It also generated national publicity for the movie as the investigation continued and the company issued anticipated release dates for the video.
By the end of the day, virtually all of the 200 copies at Eve's Lingerie and Adult Novelties had been sold or reserved - including some promised to buyers in Connecticut, New York and New Jersey who called the store after hearing about the movie on Fox News and in the New York Post.
"It's going to be our biggest day ever," said Gary Marker, who works at the store.
His wife, Krystal Marker, who owns the store, said most buyers were middle-aged men, but several of the $29.95 movies had been purchased by IU students - including some who appear in it.
"One guy wanted to know if he could sit in here and sign copies for $5 apiece because he wasn't getting anything from the movie," she said.
Ms. Cox has said she and other performers from the adult Web site visited IU after it was ranked the nation's No. 1 "party school" in an annual Princeton Review survey released in August.
It wasn't the crew's first visit to a college campus. In August, Arizona State University stripped Sigma Phi Epsilon of recognition for three years after some fraternity members were found to have engaged in sex acts with actresses for another Shane's World video.
The consequences for students were the only downside in the project, Ms. Cox said.
"It was never our intention for anyone to face any kind of disciplinary actions," she said.
IU officials said this week they were reviewing the film to determine if any of the university's trademarks had been violated. The school had threatened to take legal action if that occurred.
