He holds a bachelor's degree in industrial engineering from Northeastern University, Boston, and a master's degree and Ph.D. in management science from Northwestern University.

Darrin Hunter, manager of Media Design Services at KZF Design, received a Merit Award for his design of a graphic timeline on the firm's Uptown Arts project. The award was given by the Society of Environmental Graphic Design under the single-sign category. The firm also received a Merit Award for its work at the new Jefferson Residence Halls on the University of Cincinnati campus. The award was given by the local chapter of American Institute of Architects in the built-work category.
