QUESTION: What is the schedule for widening Ohio 747 from Union Centre Boulevard to Ohio 129 through W -
Kevin Floyd
and Ben Caudill, West Chester
ANSWER: Jay Hamilton, traffic planning engineer for the Ohio Department of Transportation, said the next phase will encompass the section from Union Centre Boulevard to Tylersville Road and will begin in late 2003 or early 2004. There is no firm schedule for widening the road north of Tylersville.
Q: When work was done on Interstate 275 between Interstate 71 and Ohio 28 in Miami Township, Clermont County, why wasn't a center barrier placed in the median to prevent crossover accidents? -Kathy Osborn, Reading
A: Mr. Hamilton said this section of interstate has not experienced the number of crossover accidents that have occurred in several other locations. The median width is greater than 40 feet, which means barriers are not required. Barriers do not always offer the best life-saving strategy. In this instance, a barrier would reduce the distance allowed for a driver to recover control of a vehicle to less than 20 feet, which is not ideal, Mr. Hamilton said.
Q: The traffic lights at the intersection of North Bend Road with Warder Drive, Northern Parkway and Twinridge Drive in Springfield Township used to be activated by pavement sensors. Recently, the light has been changing at set intervals. Why the change? -
Frank Magrino, Springfield Township
A: Hamilton County Engineer William Brayshaw said signal electricians found a defective sensor loop serving Warder Drive while sealing pavement sensor loops at this intersection. It has been repaired and the signal again is operating on traffic demand.
