Three score high on test
Mason Middle School eighth-graders Christopher Abernathy, Conor Craft and Andrea Sohn qualified for Recognition Awards as top-scoring students in the national Midwest Talent Search sponsored by Northwestern University, Evanston, Ill.
The annual search administers the high school Scholastic Aptitude Test to mathematically and verbally talented middle school students.
Study abroad
Christin Reckman, a biology major at Colby College, Waterville, Maine, spent the fall semester in Australia studying at James Cook University in Townsville, North Queensland.
The Wyoming High School graduate is the son of Mary Pollock and Richard Reckman of Wyoming.
Scholarship
The Grand Lodge of Free and Accepted Masons of Ohio awarded a $2,000 Grand Lodge Scholarship to Justin Solomon, a St. Xavier High School graduate who attends the University of Cincinnati.
AP Scholars
Students from Madeira Junior Senior High School have been named AP Scholars by the College Board, based on their performance on national college-level advanced-placement exams.
Most of the nation's colleges and universities award credit, advanced placement, or both for grades of 3 or higher on a 5-point scale.
Elizabeth Cook, Hongyi Hu, Katrina Schrode, Linda Staubach and Andrew Tohline qualified as AP Scholars with Distinction by earning an average grade of at least 3.5 on all exams taken, and grades of 3 or higher on five or more exams.
Parker Cohen, Jennifer Schneider and Susan Weisbrod qualified as AP Scholars with Honor by earning an average grade of at least 3.25 on all exams taken, and grades of 3 or higher on four or more exams.
Craig Arkfeld, Kristine Bishop, Philip Gettinger, Richard Harwood, Joseph Hellebusch, Kyle Hunt, Amber Kershaw, Sarah Luthman, Amanda McKenzie, Luke Norman, Zachary Orjuela, Jeffrey Stambough and Michael Stentz qualified as AP Scholars by completing 3 or more exams with grades of 3 or higher.
