Junonia adds career clothes

map
Junonia, the catalog of plus-size active wear and casual clothes, has added career clothes for women who wear size 14 and up. Best-selling items so far, according to Junonia, are a short knit skirt, a sleeveless basic black dress and a travel knit group. For a catalog: (800) 586-6642 or www.junonia.com.

TV tips: The sometimes painfully honest hosts of What Not to Wear, Trinny Woodall and Susannah Cowell, sent along a few tips gleaned from their fashion makeovers from the Learning Channel's new show:

If you are pear-shaped, never wear jackets that cut across your "arse."

If you've got short legs, never wear cropped trousers.

Short-waisted women should wear short jackets that hit the hip-bone.

If you are larger or plus-size, don't be afraid to wear tighter clothes.

No women over 35 should wear skirts above the knee.

Buy deep-V or low-front tops if you have a short neck.

The most important thing to have in your wardrobe is a well-cut coat, according to Ms. Woodall, and a "decent bra," according to Ms. Cowell.

Ear piercing earring: The worst thing about ear piercing is waiting the recommended four to 12 weeks before changing earrings. The impatient remove earrings too soon and replace them with sometimes unsterile, borrowed earrings that can lead to infections. Klikxx is a piercing earring that stays in your ear with changeable fronts that "click" on allowing you to change your earring style without removing the post. The Klikxx Starter Kit has one pair of 14 carat gold piercing earrings and one pair of 14 carat white gold fronts for $22-$29. Additional fronts that can be purchased from 36 styles, including dragonflies and hand-painted flowers. $7 -$39; at Wal-Mart, Piercing Pagodas and Claire's.

Clothing doctor for men: Men are generally not known as patient clothes shoppers, and many fall short when it comes to caring for said purchases. There's helpful advice in garment guru Steve Boorstein's book The Ultimate Guide to Shopping & Caring for Clothing . . . Everything You Need to Know. . . From Blue Jeans to Ball Gowns (Boutique Books; $19.95.) Skip over the ball gowns for tips on shopping and care including: have suit slacks half-lined to prolong their life; stay away from light-colored ties or vibrant prints that limit stain removal; a few custom shirts can help "hard-to-fit" tall, short, robust or thin (but ask for a prototype first and whether collars are preshrunk before construction).

Coat tips: Burlington Coats checks in with pointers on buying the right coat for your needs:

Try on coats over winter clothes.

There are no rules anymore about length - choose what you like.

To look slim, avoid patch pockets and horizontal seaming and belts. Black is most slimming.

Sleeves should extent beyond long-sleeved clothes by 1/2 inch.

Warm lotion massager: Winter is here and that means itchy, dry skin can't be far behind. Wahl has come up with a Warm Lotion Massager that'll turn your bathroom into a mini-spa. The nifty gadget has two massage intensities, two heat settings and can dispense warmed moisturizing lotion. About $39.99 (lotion included) at Wal-Mart, Bed, Bath & Beyond.
