Martial arts students win
Students from Tiger's Lair Martial Arts in Summerside won three gold and silver medals at the Amateur Athletic Union (AAU) National Tae Kwon Do Championships in Greensboro, N.C.
Josh Utter won gold, and Erik Kjeldsen and Justin Utter won silver medals in Olympic-style sparring in which the athletes fight for two continuous rounds until the time period expires.
Educator honored
David Marshall, assistant professor of finance at Miami University, was named this year's Effective Educator by alumni from the class of 1998. He teaches investments and real estate classes in Miami's Richard T. Farmer School of Business.
AP Scholars
Students from Wyoming High School have been named AP Scholars by the College Board, based on their performance on national college-level advanced-placement exams. Most colleges and universities award credit, advanced placement, or both for grades of 3 or higher on a 5-point scale.
Alexis Schmitt qualified as a National Scholar by scoring an average grade of 4 or higher on all exams taken and grades of 4 or higher on eight or more exams.
Emily Clark, Jonathan Finke, Terrell Finney, Jessica Fischoff, Nicholas Fritzhand, Elinor Kasting, Megan Meyer, Christian Miller, Margaret Robinson, Elizabeth Roots, Michael Schroer, Scott Shimp, and Maria Steenland qualified as AP Scholars with Distinction by earning an average grade of at least 3.5 on all exams taken, and grades of 3 or higher on five or more exams.
Adam Cardi, Joshua Clark, David Cobey, Abbey Cohen, Pamela Gieseker, Jeremy Hollander, Jessica Hull, Adam Jellison, Pierce Kuhnell, Kelly McDonald, Elizabeth Molloy, Sarah Osmond, Elizabeth Planalp, Patrick Quinn, David Schaengold, Elizabeth Shelleby, Jamison Sites and Jon Woltmann qualified as AP Scholars with Honor by earning an average grade of at least 3.25 on all exams taken, and grades of 3 or higher on four or more exams.
