A Green Township mother of three was arrested Thursday and accused of pilfering about $22,000 from her sons' former Cub Scout pack, soccer organization and school PTA.
Michelle Weimer, 34, was indicted on three counts of felony theft, accused of stealing money from Pack 44 of the Springmyer Cub Scouts, the Springmyer Memorial PTA and the Springmyer Soccer Association, Hamilton County Prosecutor Mike Allen said.
Mrs. Weimer's sons formerly belonged to the organizations and she was a volunteer treasurer for the Cub Scout pack and the PTA, said Green Township Detective Chris House.
Her husband was treasurer of the soccer association, although he did not know about the thefts, according to police.
"She originally wanted to pay the money back, but it snowballed until she didn't even know how much she had taken," Detective House said.
An audit of Cub Scout accounts turned up the discrepancy in September, prompting the investigation, Detective House said.
"In the meantime word got around and the other groups looked at their books," he said.
Mrs. Weimer told authorities she used the money to pay household bills.
She worked at Warsaw Federal Savings and Loan Association in Price Hill at the time of the thefts, but resigned in September, according to Steve Hibbitts, the bank's president.
Authorities would not say how much was stolen from each organization, but the total was about $22,000, according to the Hamilton County Prosecutor's Office.
"It's an unfortunate incident," said Bill Brems, 37, a soccer-league coach who has taken over as treasurer. "Nobody here is a winner."
Mrs. Weimer was held Thursday night in the Hamilton County Jail without bail and is to be arraigned today.
