Marker to cap historic radio broadcast site
WEST CHESTER TWP. - During the Ohio Bicentennial celebration this summer, the Voice of America's old Bethany Station will be recognized for its achievements and receive a state historical marker.
"The marker will help draw attention to our project and help out with our fund-raising," said Bill Zerkle, director of parks and recreation. "
Plans call for the marker to be dedicated either June 28 or 29, during Freedom Fest at the park. .
The broadcasting station was decommissioned in 1995.
Donations for the park and museum may be sent to the Veterans' VOA Fund, P.O. Box 815, Middletown, OH 45042-0815.
HAMILTON - Anne Ruder Bever of Oxford donated $1.2 million to the capital campaign of the Fitton Center for Creative Arts this week.
Director Rick Jones said $1.1 million will be spent on the new Carruthers' Center for Arts and Technology. The remaining $100,000 will be applied to the Arts in Common program, which Mr. Jones said was in danger of ending because of lack of funding.
The program provides free art instruction to economically disadvantaged persons at 20 sites in Butler County.
LEBANON - The Warren County Historical Society's Lebanon Antiques Show will be Jan. 18-19 at Lebanon High School, 160 Miller Road (at Broadway) in Warren County.
About 80 dealers from 15 states will display pieces of Americana, including formal furniture, brass, pewter, copper, folk art and other items from the 17th, 18th and 19th centuries.
The show will be from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Jan. 18 and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Jan. 19.
The admission price, $6, is good for both days. Information: 932-1817.
SPRINGFIELD TWP. - The Hamilton County Park District will present a series of theme dinners starting in February at the Mill Race Banquet Center in Winton Woods.
Guests will enjoy three mysteries or a night of Celtic music. Programs start with a cash bar at 6 p.m. followed by a buffet dinner at 7 p.m.
The cost is $32.50 per person, but you can save $15 if you register for the entire series by Feb. 1. Information: 521-7275.
