ESPN programming bumps 'Wildman' show from WCKY

By John Fay
The Cincinnati Enquirer

Dennis "Wildman" Walker is out and Tony Kornheiser is in at WCKY-AM (1360).

Beginning Monday, Kornheiser's show will occupy the 10 a.m.-to-noon slot that Walker's has filled for five years.

"This is nothing against Wildman," said Darryl Parks, chief of operations for station owner Clear Channel Communications. "We had a chance to reaffiliate with ESPN. You have to air so much programming. Kornheiser is a good fit - with the popularity of Pardon the Interruption."

Pardon the Interruption is a live, weekday radio show featuring Kornheiser and fellow Washington Post columnist Mike Wilbon that is devoted to sports headline issues and opinions.

The move hasn't been finalized but would clear the way for WCKY to add ESPN's Major League Baseball and Bowl Championship Series programming.

WBOB-AM (1160) had carried ESPN programming, but the station recently switched to a political talk format.

The rest of WCKY's daytime lineup - The Two Angry Guys from 6-10 a.m., Jim Rome from noon to 3 p.m., and Lance McAlister from 3-6 p.m. - remains unchanged.

Walker will return to his sports duties at WEBN-FM (102.7).
