Violent Crime Squad officers were on Green Street about 1:30 a.m. when they saw a man at the corner of Vine and Green streets draw a handgun and fire at Officers Mike Bell and Dan Kowalski. The man jumped in the back seat of a Toyota and tried to flee, police said.
Police chased the car and arrested Jaaron Richardson, 23, of Avondale, charging him with felonious assault and carrying a concealed weapon. The driver, Mr. Richardson's brother, James, 26, was charged with improper transportation of a firearm.
Officers found two guns in the car, both loaded.
