CAMPBELLSBURG, Ky. - An investigation sparked by a suspicious package at Cincinnati/ Northern Kentucky International Airport led to the arrests of six people on drug charges and seizure of more than 110 pounds of marijuana worth $220,000.
In addition, two vehicles, 2 ounces of cocaine valued at $2,400, just under $1,000 in cash and five firearms were seized in the 11-day investigation, said Detective Shane Bates of the Kentucky State Police's Campbellsburg post.
The names of those arrested and information on specific charges were not released. Authorities say they are still investigating and that more arrests are possible.
U.S. Customs agents from the airport contacted Kentucky State Police after becoming suspicious of a package received Dec. 26. The parcel originated in Mexico and was addressed to a person living in Henry County in southern Kentucky.
State police detectives controlled the package's delivery and made more than one arrest. Marijuana and firearms were found when the package was delivered, Detective Bates said.
Detectives intercepted two additional packages containing marijuana intended for other Henry County addresses. After another controlled delivery was arranged, detectives arrested two people and seized marijuana, money and a vehicle, state police said.
Authorities made another controlled delivery of 2 ounces of cocaine, leading to two more arrests and seizure of another vehicle.
