WEST CHESTER TWP. - A 19-acre site along Cincinnati-Dayton Road is likely to become the home of a Lakota elementary school.
Monday, the Lakota Board of Education agreed to purchase the property from Liberty Township trustees for $10. Located in the Summerlin subdivision, the land is between Linn and Kyles Station roads, said Superintendent Kathleen Klink.
"As we continue to address our facilities needs, we now have property in Liberty Township in an absolutely ideal location for an elementary (school)," Mrs. Klink said.
Discussion of the property began about two years ago, when developers bought the land and proposed a planned-unit development project, which requires that land be set aside for green space, said Nell Kilpatrick, township administrator. Trustees agreed last month to sell the land to the district with the stipulation that if it weren't used for a school, it would revert to trustees for green space.
"We see this as a good opportunity for the township and school to work together," Mrs. Kilpatrick said.
"It's a nice, level piece of land. It fits in with their plans nicely."
Mrs. Klink said the site was large enough that some of the property might also be used for community ball fields.
Planning for school needs will begin in April, when the district will hold a series of town meetings with proposals to address space needs at the elementary and high school level, Mrs. Klink said.
