MONROE - A 34-year-old man was being held Friday in the Butler County Jail, accused of attacking his ex-girlfriend with a stun weapon and intending to rape her as the couple's 9-year-old child sat outside in his car.

Robert Rager of Monroe is scheduled to appear Tuesday in Butler County Area III Court, West Chester Township. Police charged him with attempted rape, attempted kidnapping, felonious assault and child endangering, a report says.

The allegations relate to an attack that a 37-year-old woman reported around 10:45 a.m. Thursday. The woman told police her ex-boyfriend had come to her home in the 900 block of Red Fox Court and used a stun gun on her at least a half-dozen times.

After the alleged attack, police say the suspect came to the police station and surrendered. The woman, whose name is being withheld, was treated at Middletown Regional Hospital.

Police said Mr. Rager told them he intended to rape the woman, planning to place strips of duct tape over the woman's mouth to muffle her screams.
