Women, girls to celebrate day of sports

Several local women's basketball teams are holding special events in the coming weeks to celebrate the 17th annual National Girls and Women in Sports Day.
The official day for the event is Feb. 5, but teams are observing the event during home games over the next two weeks.
Xavier UniversityJan. 26 vs. Rhode Island
All Girl Scouts wearing their troop sash or vest get in free. Following the game, members of the XU women's teams will conduct free clinics for all girls and boys. Stations will be open for tennis, swimming, volleyball, basketball, soccer and fitness.
Northern Kentucky UniversityFeb. 1 vs. Wisconsin-Parkside
All youth teams in uniform or warmups will get in free. T-shirts and autographed basketballs will be given out. At halftime there will be a free throw shooting contest, and after the game the team will be available for autographs.
University of CincinnatiFeb. 2 vs. Tulane
Admission for all youth groups is $1 per person. The first 100 children receive a UC T-shirt.
Miami UniversityFeb. 8 vs. Kent State
Pregame, MU female athletes will sign autographs, explain equipment and conduct demonstrations and drills. With the Mid-American Conference, the RedHawks are sponsoring a "You Go Girl" poster contest for children in grades K-8. At halftime, the women's soccer team will team up with children for a soccer skills relay competition.
