Thayer worked for others, now he's in office
By Patrick Crowley The Cincinnati Enquirer
INDEPENDENCE - Damon Thayer, who for the 10 years he has lived in Kentucky has helped put fellow Republicans in office, was elected to the Kentucky state Senate Tuesday in a special election that included the southern half of Kenton County.
Thayer, 35, a Scott County resident who previously lived in Grant County, defeated Democrat Charles Wells, also of Scott County, with nearly 56 percent of the vote in Tuesday's election for the new 17th Senate District.
He will be sworn into office next week when the Kentucky General Assembly convenes in Frankfort for its 2003 legislative session. Thayer's win gives the Republicans a record high 22 senators compared to the Democrats 16.
Unofficial results gave Thayer the win with 4,913 votes to Wells' 3,920 votes.
