Lane's End field shaping up
Turfway snowed out for 9th straight day
The Enquirer and wire reports
Sky Mesa and Toccet, leading juveniles of last year, head a list of 142 nominations to the $500,000 Grade II Lane's End Stakes on March 22 at Turfway Park. Other nominations include recent stakes winners Lion Tamer, Badge of Silver and Nothing to Lose. The Lane's End is a stepping stone to the May 3 Kentucky Derby.
On Sunday, weather forced cancellation of racing for the ninth straight day.
The $50,000 Dust Commander, originally scheduled for Feb. 15 and redrawn for Sunday, will not be rescheduled with the $50,000 Tejano Run Stakes for older horses coming up March 15.
Live racing is scheduled to resume Wednesday with a 5:30 p.m. first post.

Aqueduct trainer Edward R. Barker suspended, fined
NEW YORK - Trainer Edward R. Barker was suspended seven days and fined $1,000 after Aqueduct stewards found the banned substance Ambroxol in the post-race urine of a horse in his care.
The finding was made after Boeing finished second in the 10th race at Aqueduct on Nov. 29, 2002.
Barker waived his right to appeal the ruling and had his suspension reduced from 15 days to seven. Barker, who will serve the suspension from Feb. 24 through March 2, was also denied the privileges of using Aqueduct grounds during his suspension.
Boeing was declared unplaced in the revised order of finish of the Nov. 29 race.
