If you like the flavorful, tender food you get from slowly cooking ingredients together, you might enjoy these restaurant dishes:
The lamb shank at the Golden Lamb in Lebanon. Big hunks of tender meat fall from a bone for a flavorful stew.
Split pea soup is the soup of the day Saturdays at Izzy's, downtown, Covington, Forest Park and Western Hills. It's a thick, ham-enriched version.
Osso buco is veal shank, stewed Italian-style, that just gets better the longer it stays at low heat. Try it at Vito's Cafe in Fort Thomas, or a very good version at the new Andiamo in Oakley.
Sauerbraten is a German pot roast that's steeped in a vinegary marinade before being slow-cooked and served with gravy that's often enriched with crumbled gingersnaps. The version at Ron's Roost in Bridgetown is among the best.
