A guide to what's going on around the home
To Do
Cincy hears a who: Help celebrate Dr. Seuss' birthday with a special Read Across America program 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Saturday at the Cincinnati Museum Center. Sponsored by the Public Library of Cincinnati & Hamilton County, the event's purpose is to get every child to read this weekend. Here is the day's schedule:
11 a.m.: Stories with Cassandra and Becky
noon: Silly Stories with Tess
1 p.m.: La Luna y el Sol (The Moon and the Sun), a Spanish-English story time, with Shannon & Elvia
2 p.m.: Joel and Eric present A Musical Story Time
3 p.m.: Folk Tales from Around the World with Aimee
4 p.m.: Cat Stories with Kathy and Lisa
Children can also make Cat in the Hat hats and fill out a chance to win a jar of "Green Eggs and Ham" (green jelly beans and bubble gum). Plus, anyone showing his or her library card will receive one free child admission to the Cinergy Children's Museum with each paid adult admission. Free. 369-6900.
Safety time: Children ages 3-6 and their caregivers are invited to listen to the story of Curious George at the Fire Station at 11 a.m. March 11 at the Cincinnati Fire Museum downtown. This special story time is intended to entertain and educate participants about fire safety and prevention. Children in this age range are considered the most at risk for death or injury in a fire. $3 children, $5 adults. 621-5553.
Zest for living: Learn how "Life is a Celebration!" during a six-week class starting March 19 at the Mercy HealthPlex in Westwood. The class, which runs 7:15-9:45 p.m. each Wednesday, is for people who would like to get more out of life and feel at peace with themselves and others. Sponsored by Catholic Social Services. $50, registration deadline March 12. 241-7745.
