Esper Hayes fulfilled a promise she made to Olympian Jesse Owens when she founded the Ebony Society of Philatelic Events and Reflections
(ESPER). He wanted her to create something to give blacks reason to be proud of their heritage. ESPER promotes the collecting of African-Americans on stamps and the collecting of stamps by African-Americans.
