Arizona locks up Pac-10

Saturday's Top 25 roundup

By The Associated Press

STANFORD, Calif. - Salim Stoudamire scored 18 points and No. 1 Arizona clinched the Pac-10 title for the 10th time in coach Lute Olson's 20-year tenure, beating No. 19 Stanford 72-69 on Saturday.

Josh Childress had 20 points and 10 rebounds for Stanford, which had its six-game winning streak snapped.

Childress hit a 3-pointer with 58 seconds left to cut Arizona's lead to 68-67. Stoudamire then scored with 43 seconds remaining and he added two free throws 18 seconds later.

Stanford had a final chance to tie, but Childress missed a 3-pointer with 5 seconds left and Julius Barnes missed a 3 with 1 second on the clock.

Arizona (23-2, 15-1) avenged its only conference loss of the season - Stanford (22-7, 13-4) beat the Wildcats 82-77 on Jan. 30, in Tucson.

---

No. 3 OKlahoma 69, Texas A&M 64

COLLEGE STATION, Texas - Hollis Price scored 23 points, including two free throws with 7 seconds to play, as Oklahoma held on.

The Sooners (20-5, 11-3 Big 12) withstood A&M's pressing defense over the final five minutes to stretch their record to 19-1 over the Aggies, including the last eight in a row.

Bernard King had 17 points for Texas A&M (13-12, 5-9).

The Sooners led 59-42 with 3:13 to play, but King had 12 points over the final eight minutes and the Aggies got within 67-64 with 9 seconds left on King's 3-pointer. Price then hit his free throws to keep the Sooners ahead.

---

No. 4 Florida 73, Auburn 70

AUBURN, Ala. - Matt Bonner scored 23 points and went 3-of-4 from the free throw line over the final 23 seconds to lead Florida.

The Gators (24-4, 12-2 Southeastern Conference) set the school record for regular-season wins and have won six of seven.

Derrick Bird had 21 points for the Tigers (18-9, 7-7) and had half of their 10 3-pointers.

---

No. 5 Texas 76, Texas Tech 71

LUBBOCK, Texas - Brandon Mouton scored 20 points and Texas beat Texas Tech for the 13th straight time.

T.J. Ford added 17 points for the Longhorns (20-5, 11-3 Big 12).

Will Chavis had 21 points and eight rebounds for the Red Raiders (16-9, 6-8), while Andre Emmett, the Big 12's leading scorer coming into the game, added 20 points.

Tony Allen had 21 points for the Cowboys (20-7, 9-5), who lost for the fifth time in seven games.

---

Rutgers 95, No. 9 Notre Dame 82

PISCATAWAY, N.J. - Jerome Coleman scored 27 points and Rutgers beat a Top 10 team for the first time in over 20 years.

Calvin Wooten added 18 points for Rutgers (12-14, 4-10 Big East), which snapped a four-game losing streak.

---

No. 10 Marquette 98, Alabama-Birmingham 87

MILWAUKEE - Dwyane Wade scored 26 points as Marquette beat Alabama-Birmingham to win a share of the Conference USA title for the first time in the league's eight-year history.

The only team that can tie the Golden Eagles (22-4, 13-2) for the conference title is Memphis, which beat Cincinnati on Saturday night and has games at Houston and UAB left. Marquette closes its conference schedule by hosting Cincinnati on March 8.

Robert Jackson scored 22 points and had 10 rebounds for Marquette, which has won 14 of its last 15.

Morris Finley scored 31 to lead the Blazers (16-9, 8-6).

The Demon Deacons (21-4, 11-3), pulled one game ahead of Duke and Maryland in the Atlantic Coast Conference with one week left in the regular season.

Edward Scott had 27 points for the Tigers (15-10, 5-9).

---

No. 15 Syracuse 93, Georgetown 84, OT

WASHINGTON - Gerry McNamara scored 10 of his 22 points in overtime as Syracuse rallied from a 12-point second-half deficit.

Mike Sweetney had 31 points, 19 rebounds, seven assists and seven blocks for the Hoyas (13-12, 5-9), who tied the game with 3.2 seconds left in regulation on a 3-pointer by Gerald Riley.

Syracuse's comeback marked the fifth time this season the Orangemen have made up eight or more in the second half. This was the first to go to overtime and it featured stellar games from Big East player of the year candidates Anthony and Sweetney.

"I doubt if there's ever been a team that's been behind as many points as we have in 11 games in the second half and won all 11," Boeheim said. "Either we're not doing a good coaching job in the first half, or we're doing a heck of a coaching job in the second half."

---

Southern Illinois 70, No. 17 Creighton 62

CARBONDALE, Ill. - Kent Williams scored 24 points and Jermaine Dearman added 18 to lead Southern Illinois over Creighton.

The win clinched the No. 1 seed in the conference tournament and a share of the league championship for the Salukis (21-5, 15-2 Missouri Valley Conference).

Creighton (25-4, 14-3) and Southern Illinois each have one league game remaining. It was the first win for the Salukis over a team ranked as high as No. 17 since Nov. 26, 1988, when Southern Illinois defeated No. 11 Villanova.

It was the first win over a ranked conference team for the Salukis since Jan. 19, 1978, when Southern Illinois topped Indiana State and Larry Bird. The win was the Salukis' 27th consecutive home victory, the fourth-longest active streak in Division I. Southern Illinois finished 14-0 at home this season.

Kyle Korver and Michael Lindeman each scored 10 points to lead Creighton.

---
