QUESTION: To get home from work, I take Eggleston Avenue south and turn left onto Pete Rose Way and head out Eastern Avenue. Making a left turn there on Cincinnati Reds game days is near impossible and traffic backs up to Central Parkway. The problem results because left turning vehicles on Eggleston must yield to cars coming out of Bicentennial Commons and by the time the light turns red, only one of two left turning cars have been able to move. I was recently angered when I noticed a new right turn arrow to help motorists on Eggleston who want to turn west, but still no arrow for vehicles turning east. What gives?
TERESA SHOUVLIN, Mount Washington
ANSWER: Cincinnati Traffic Engineer Steve Bailey said the signal at Eggleston and Pete Rose Way has been checked and is operating properly. The signal timing provides sufficient green time to southbound Eggleston during normal peak traffic hours. The right turn signal has been in place for several years. The right turn arrow also helps the pre-event traffic flow destined to the riverfront. Adding a left turn arrow at southbound Eggleston would take away green time from Pete Rose Way traffic. However, Bailey said, it is likely this approach has more congestion during the dozen or so Reds business day games. The intersection will be monitored during the first business day game in April to determine if traffic signal timing changes are justified on these game days.
Q: The spur of Remington Road south from Ohio 126 to Loveland-Madeira Road in Symmes Township has been closed for a long time. It appears flood damage has been repaired under the railroad overpass, but barriers remain in place. When will it reopen?
JAMES JUAN, Miami Township, Clermont County
A: Hamilton County Engineer William W. Brayshaw intends to request comments from officials of Symmes Township, Indian Hill, the Hamilton County sheriff's office, the Loveland/Symmes Fire Department and the Metropolitan Sewer District (MSD) about the future use of this road. MSD has requested the road be permanently closed while county commissioners would need to approve any permanent closure. Until a final decision is made, the road will reopen soon.
