Wright State fires coach

DAYTON, Ohio - Wright State fired men's basketball coach Ed Schilling on Wednesday, saying he didn't make enough progress with the program.

Schilling, a former Miami University guard, was 75-93 in his six seasons as head coach.

Athletic director Michael Cusack said he will form an advisory committee to find a new coach.

"Coach Schilling has brought many positive aspects to our program, but we do not feel it has developed to where we had hoped," Cusack said. "While we are disappointed in the progress of the program, we have developed an appreciation of Ed's integrity, work ethic and values."

Wright State will honor Schilling's contract, which runs through June 30, 2006, Cusack said. The school will use private revenue to fulfill the contract, which is to be paid on a monthly basis, Cusack said.
