LOUISVILLE - An interview with Tina Conner by the television talk show host Dr. Phil McGraw taped five months ago aired on Tuesday.
In the 10-minute segment, Conner, who had a two-year affair with Gov. Paul Patton, apologized to her daughter and said her life since the affair "has been very emotional."
"Obviously, my daughter has high expectations. I failed her," Conner, of Clinton, told McGraw, the plain-spoken TV psychologist and host of Dr. Phil.
McGraw asked her why she decided to come on national TV to talk about an affair she admits being embarrassed about.
"I feel like I have a message. I feel like I had to take a stand to stop the corruption," she said.
Patton has admitted having an affair with Conner. But he rejects her claims that he abused his power. Conner has sued Patton for sexual harassment.
McGraw told Conner to take responsibility for her actions, then forgive herself and "stand up" for herself.
"How did you get yourself into this mess? Did it ever occur to you to say no?" McGraw asked.
"It occurred to me," Conner replied. "I had a lot of pressure."
