Counting down to the 75th Anniversary Oscars ceremony March 23:
Some Like It Hot, voted the best American comedy of all time in the American Film Institute poll in 2000, was not nominated for best picture of 1959. Its only Oscar was awarded for black-and-white costume design.
Now held at the Kodak Theater in Hollywood, the Oscar ceremony over the past 75 years has been held at the Hollywood Roosevelt, Ambassador and Biltmore hotels; Grauman's Chinese Theater; Los Angeles Shrine Auditorium; the Academy's Melrose Avenue theater; RKO Pantages Theater; Santa Monica Civic Auditorium; and Dorothy Chandler Pavilion of the L.A. Music Center.
ABC began broadcasting the Oscars in 1976 and its contract runs through 2008. The network pays about $20 million a year to the Academy for broadcast rights.
