Women on intuition

"I've used it any time I thought somebody was faking me out or I didn't trust what they were telling me. When the Susan Smith story broke a few years ago, I thought, `There's something odd here. There's something not right.'  (Smith, who claimed her sons were kidnapped, later confessed to drowning them.)

"I never leave the phone on during the day, but I did one day a few weeks ago. The phone rang and I picked it up and they said, `Come here immediately.' And my brother had died.

"I always go with my gut, and any time I go against it, I get myself into a mess. One day I didn't want to leave the house, but a friend talked me into it, and that's the day somebody T-boned me in the car."

Jeannine Gallenstein, executive news producer WCPO-TV (Channel 9)

"I use it a lot in relationships. I was dating this guy and he told me something and I had a funny feeling and it turned out I was right, because he had lied to me. It just didn't feel right in my stomach.

"I think (intuition) is valid because so many of my single, professional women friends are having trouble finding the right person to date. And in those types of situations, you definitely have to follow your intuition."

Tyrha M. Lindsey, development director, LifeCenter

"I think it's so important. It's guided me throughout my life. A perfect example for me was when I was a senior in high school, I was very poor. I wanted to be an entertainer. I could sing. I had picked out a school, the American Academy of Dramatic Arts in New York City, because that was where I felt I had to be. We had no money, but I knew I could do it.

"A friend from high school brought her family to see me in a (local) production, and they were very well-off. She asked them to help, and they agreed to sponsor me. That was in May, and in September I was in New York City.

"When you leave yourself open and follow intuition and trust in it, it really takes you to wonderful places. It opens up new vistas for you, and new challenges, I might add."

Florence Henderson, actress and honorary chair, speaking of Women's Health
