Fairfield alumni remembered
More than 100 Fairfield High School alumni serving in the military will soon get letters, drawings and packages from Fairfield students.
The Adopt-A-Soldier program started with a resolution Thursday proclaiming April "Fairfield Schools Armed Forces Month" and a public reading of names of alumni in the military. Several parents of those serving in the military were invited to the meeting, along with representatives of the military branches.
"I know many of you don't know where your loved ones are tonight,'' said Anne Crone, president of the Fairfield Board of Education. "Please believe they are and will be in our hearts.''
"It's kind of a small gesture for those who are taking on a huge task,'' said board member Vicky Barger. She worked with administrators to get alumni names and addresses from recruiters and community members.
Anyone who knows of a Fairfield school alumnus who is in the armed services should call 829-6300 and ask for Carol Overburg or Jeff Kursman.
