The Presidential Prayer Team has launched the "Adopt Our Troops" prayer campaign at www.presidentialprayerteam.org.
Americans are invited to join with President Bush to "pray for the men and women who serve around the world to defend our freedom."
The campaign is designed to mobilize Americans to both register the names of soldiers they know and to "adopt" a military person and their family, promising to pray for them daily.
Pins part of effort for Iraqi children
Episcopalians will pass out pins emblazoned with names of Iraqi children at a 5 p.m. Sunday prayer service at Christ Church Cathedral, 318 E. Fourth St. A 24-hour "interfaith prayer vigil for peace" will follow.
Those receiving the pins will be asked to wear them over their hearts, and pray for that child every morning.
"It's a reminder," said the Rev. Canon Kwasi Thornell. "It's so that children may live in peace. We're concerned about children all over the world who have to grow up in war or oppression. War and oppression impacts people for the rest of their lives." Information: 621-1817.
