Single-car crash kills Ludlow teenager
WHITEWATER TOWNSHIP - One Kentucky teenager was killed and another seriously injured in a wreck early Saturday on southbound Interstate 275, near Kilby Road.
The deceased - Benjamin Steffen, 17, of Ludlow - lost control of a 1994 Pontiac Sunbird at 12:55 a.m., before it veered off the road and crashed into a tree, said deputies with the Hamilton County Sheriff's Department.
Benjamin and his passenger, Tyler James, 18, of Covington, were extricated from the mangled car by the Whitewater Township Fire Department.
Benjamin was pronounced dead at the scene. Tyler was taken by ambulance to University Hospital, where he was in serious condition Saturday.
The crash remains under investigation.
Park-and-ride buses serve Opening Day
Fans can avoid Opening Day traffic jams by taking Metro to Monday's game.
Service from the following park-and-ride locations will take fans to the Riverfront Transit Center, a short walk from Great American Ball Park:
Anderson Park and Ride, 7954 Beechmont Ave.
Kenwood Baptist Church, 8341 Kenwood Road.
Cobblewood Plaza, 1189 Smiley, off Winton Road near I-275, Forest Park
Western Hills Plaza, 6110 Glenway Ave.
On Opening Day, buses will leave the park-and-rides every half-hour from 1:30-3 p.m.
On Thursday, buses will leave the park and ride locations at 11:20 a.m.
On both days, the buses will return immediately after the game ends.
Fare is $5 round-trip $3 one-way.

Professor to speak at Art League event
David L. Niland, professor emeritus of the University of Cincinnati's College of Design, Architecture, Art and Planning, will speak 2-4 p.m. today at the "Art League Afternoon" at Central Fairmount School, 2475 White St., off Queen City Avenue, Price Hill.
Central Fairmount's interior is virtually unaltered since the day of its dedication in 1908. Details include mosaic floors, Rookwood tiles and leaded glass. Actors Tyrone Power and Doris Day attended this school.
The Art League, a nonprofit group, is dedicated to documenting and preserving works of art and architecture in the Cincinnati Public Schools.

Kitchen fire damages apartment complex
WEST CHESTER TOWNSHIP - A two-alarm kitchen fire in The Fountains, a three-story apartment complex, caused an undetermined amount of damage Saturday afternoon, said Lt. Bill Borneman of the West Chester Fire Department.
Flames broke out in a third-story apartment in the 6700 block of Fountains Boulevard shortly before 1 p.m. and then spread to the living room and dining room, he said.
Firefighters were able to confine the flames to one apartment. Firefighters from Liberty Township and Sharonville assisted.About 12 families living on the complex's south side were displaced because their electricity was lost. The American Red Cross is assisting.
