OXFORD - Miami University's Professors for Peace have released a statement calling on the United States and United Kingdom to stop the war on Iraq. It's signed by 33 professors.
"You really have to be the home of the brave if you want to be the land of the free," said Richard D. Erlich , a Miami English professor. He said a "pre-emptive war" is not being brave.
"I supported the war in the other sense during Vietnam by keeping quiet," he said. "I am determined not to do that again."
Dan La Botz, a visiting professor of history and Latin American studies, said Professors for Peace don't want the troops taking part in an illegal war. "We support the troops in the sense we want them brought home and made safe," he said.
Professors for Peace is an international group that aims to promote non-violent solutions to global conflicts.
