We asked readers to vote for their favorite fish fries.

After one week of voting, we tallied more than 180 mail and e-mail ballots, and narrowed the list to the nine who received the most votes.

We visited the finalists anonymously on two Fridays, ordering a basic fish dinner, including coleslaw and macaroni and cheese.

We scored each fish fry on this 100-point scale: Food (possible 40 points); service (30 points); atmosphere (20 points); menu variety (10 points).

To give everyone a chance, we declared our last (2001) fish fry champion, Hartzell United Methodist Church in Blue Ash, ineligible for this year's competition. But they're still open for business at 8999 Applewood Drive. Hours: 4:30-7:30 p.m. Friday through April 18.
