Kentucky obituaries



The Kentucky Enquirer publishes obituaries of residents in Boone, Campbell, Gallatin, Grant, Kenton and Pendleton counties as a free service. Boone County

Gerald L. Clore

BURLINGTON - Gerald L. Clore, 77, a member of the Burlington Fire Department for more than 54 years and fire chief from 1971-'76, died Wednesday at his home. He was a retired process engineer, and a World War II Navy veteran. He was a member of Burlington Baptist Church, and former master of the Burlington F&AM Lodge 264.

Hiswife, Mary Jane Clore, died in 1996.

Surviving are two daughters, Ellen Young of Hebron, and Sharon Kay Burns of Petersburg; a son, Gerald of Hebron; a brother, Alvin of Burlington; six grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be 2-6 p.m. Sunday at Stith Funeral Home, Florence. The Burlington Fire Department will have a memorial service at 6 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Service will be 11 a.m. Monday at Burlington Baptist Church. Burial will be in Burlington Cemetery.

Memorials: Hospice of Northern Kentucky, 1403 Alexandria Pike, Fort Thomas, KY 41075.; or Burlington Fire Department, 6050 Firehouse Drive, Burlington, KY 41005.

Opal M. Walton

FLORENCE - Opal M. Walton, 93, formerly of Newport, a retired home health care provider, died Friday at Florence Park Care Center.

Surviving are two sons, Evan of Erlanger, and Ronald of North Port, Fla.; and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be 5-9 p.m. Sunday and service 11 a.m. Monday at Fares J. Radel Funeral Home, Newport. Burial will be in Lenoxburg, Ky., Cemetery in Bracken County.

Memorials: Hospice of Northern Kentucky, 1403 Alexandria Pike, Fort Thomas, KY 41075; or Lighthouse Freewill Baptist Church, P.O. Box 18073, Elsmere, KY 41018.

Barbara L. Gripshover

UNION - Barbara Lee Gripshover, 43, a homemaker, died Wednesday at St. Luke Hospital in Florence.

Surviving are her husband, Charlie; three daughters, Charlene Gripshover of Walton, and Laurie and Jenny Gripshover, both of Union; a son, Paul of Union; two sisters, Betty Hodges of Burlington, and Frances Olson of Greenville, Ga.; and three brothers, Butch Setters of Union, Sam Setters of Covington, and Bud Setters of La Grange, Ky.

Visitation will be 5-8 p.m. Sunday at Linnemann Funeral Home, Burlington. Mass of Christian burial will be 10 a.m. Monday at St. Paul Church, Florence. Burial will be in St. Mary Cemetery, Fort Mitchell.

Edna Centers

VERONA - Edna Seals Centers, 77, a member of Verona Full Gospel Church of God, died Thursday at St. Luke Hospital in Florence.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Finley Centers, in 1995.

Surviving are three daughters, Connie Benton of Union, Gail Stephenson of Petersburg, and Sherry Thomas of Verona; a son, Roger of Walton; a sister, Beatrice Amburgey of New Carlisle, Ohio; two brothers, Orville Seals of Corbin, Ky., and Maryland Seals of Prestonsburg, Ky.; nine grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be 5-9 p.m. today and service 2 p.m. Sunday at Hamilton-Stanley Funeral Home, Verona. Burial will be in New Bethel Cemetery in Verona.

Campbell County

Joyce Stull

ALEXANDRIA - Joyce Stull, 64, a retired employee for Dairy Mart in Newport, died Thursday at her home.

She was preceded in death by a son, Michael.

Surviving are a daughter, Debbie Proctor of Butler; her mother, Nora Smith of Grants Lick; three brothers, Richard Smith of Alexandria, Jimmy Smith of Covington, and Herbert T. Smith of Cold Spring; and four sisters, Cynthia Ward and Kathy McDowell, both of Falmouth, Faye Perkins of California, Ky., and Lyndia Bolia of Harrison, Ohio.

Visitation will be 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. and service 2 p.m. Monday at Peoples Funeral Home, Grants Lick. Burial will be in Oakland Cemetery in Grants Lick.

Victor C. Fender

COLD SPRING - Victor C. Fender, 87, a retired engineer for the Kenton County Water District, died Thursday at Northern Kentucky Care & Rehabilitation Center in Highland Heights. He was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Camp Springs, and a member of the Northern Kentucky Society of Professional Engineers.

He was also a member of the Covington Rotary Club, and the Fort Thomas Retired Businessman's Club.

Surviving are his wife, Virginia; a son, James of Melbourne, Ky.; five grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

Visitation will be 5-7 p.m. Sunday at A.C. Dobbling & Son Funeral Home, Fort Thomas. Service will be 2 p.m. Monday at St. John's Lutheran Church, Lower Tug Fork Road, Camp Springs. Burial will be in St. John's Lutheran Church Cemetery, Camp Springs.

Memorials may be made to a charity of choice.

Ruth E. Meyers

FORT THOMAS - Ruth E. Rice Meyers, 96, formerly of Southgate, a retired seamstress, died Thursday at Carmel Manor in Fort Thomas. She was a member of St. Therese Church for more than 75 years, and was a member of the church's altar society.

She was preceded in death by her first husband, Harry R. Rice, and second husband, Louis "Lud" Meyers.

Surviving are two sons, Richard Rice and Jay Rice, both of Fort Thomas; a stepdaughter, Barbara Meyers of Fort Thomas; a stepson, Donald Meyers of Colorado Springs, Colo.; seven grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be 9-10:30 a.m. Monday at Muehlenkamp-Erschell Funeral Home, Fort Thomas. Mass of Christian burial will be 11 a.m. Monday at St. Therese Church, Southgate. Burial will be in St. Stephen Cemetery, Fort Thomas.

Memorials: Carmel Manor, 100 Carmel Manor Drive, Fort Thomas, KY 41075.

Francis H. Stivender

SOUTHGATE - Francis H. Stivender, 63, of Homosassa, Fla., died Wednesday at his home. He was a self-employed mechanic and owner of British Motor Carriages, and a Navy veteran.

His wife, Carol, died in 2002.

Surviving are three daughters, Becky Foote of Pleasant Plain, Ohio, Melody Krista of Oxford, Fla., and Cindy White of Goshen, Ohio; a brother, Robert Stivender of Southgate; two sisters, Dottie Fenner and Doris VanLoan, both of Grand Junction, Colo.; and seven grandchildren.

No visitation. Graveside service will be 10 a.m. Monday in Evergreen Cemetery, Southgate. Muehlenkamp-Erschell Funeral Home in Fort Thomas is handling arrangements.

Kenton County

Ruth F. Decker

COVINGTON - Ruth F. Fraley Decker, 73, a retired seamstress and tailor, died Thursday at Garrard Convalescent Home in Covington.

Surviving are a daughter, Glema Warneford of Morningview; two sons, Robert of Cincinnati, and Lindsey of Morningview; two brothers, Jack Fraley of Morehead, Ky., and Monroe Fraley of Cincinnati; a sister, Annabelle Kiser of Ironton, Ohio; and two grandchildren.

Visitation will be 9-11 a.m. and service 11 a.m. today at Chambers & Grubbs Funeral Home, Independence. Burial will be in Independence Cemetery.

Juanita F. Tipton

COVINGTON - Juanita F. Tipton, 84, a homemaker, died Tuesday at St. Elizabeth Hospice in Covington.

She was a mentor to students at First District School in Covington for more than five years, and was a volunteer at a former nursing home in Covington, St. John's.

Her husband, William Tipton, died in 1998.

Surviving are three sons, William Tipton II of Fort Thomas, Richard Tipton of Mentor, Ky., and David Moonitz of Cincinnati; and seven grandchildren.

No public services planned. Her body was donated to the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine. Linnemann Funeral Homes are handling arrangements.

Memorials: St. Elizabeth Hospice Program, 401 E. 20th St., Covington, KY 41014-9988.

Chesley Turner

ERLANGER - Chesley "Lucky" Turner, 80, a retired public works employee for the city of Florence, and a World War II Army veteran, died Wednesday at St. Luke Hospital in Florence.

Surviving are his wife, Helen Turner; four daughters, Nancy Lester of Erlanger, Vicky Jones of Burlington, Margaret Kovach of Moon Township, Pa., and Barbara Lady of Darien Center, N.Y.; a son, Charles Powers of Florence; a brother, Carl of Union; three sisters, Annalee Cook of Florence, Orpha Adams of Covington, and Dorothy Cook of Sellersburg, Ind.; 17 grandchildren; and 23 great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be 9-10:45 a.m. and service 10:45 a.m. today at Don Catchen & Son Funeral Home, Elsmere. Burial will be in Floral Hills Memorial Gardens, Taylor Mill.
