Women's NIT: Auburn 64, Baylor 63
The Associated Press
WACO, Texas - Le'Coe Willingham's layup with three seconds remaining capped a comeback and gave Auburn a 64-63 victory over Baylor on Friday night for the championship of the Women's NIT.
Baylor's Jordan Davis missed a jumper at the buzzer to insure the Tiger's victory.
Willingham led Auburn with 14 points, and Natasha Brackett added 13.
Sophia Young of Baylor (24-11) led all scorers with 20 points and a career-high 25 rebounds.
Auburn (23-11) trailed 51-38 with just under nine minutes to go, but chipped away at Baylor's lead. The Tigers twice cut the deficit to three - at 58-55 and 63-60 - the last time on Nicole Louden's 3-pointer with 2:11 to go. Willingham's layup with just over a minute left cut the margin to 63-62.
Baylor had the ball and the one-point lead, but Steffanie Blackmon missed a layup with nine seconds remaining. Tia Miller pulled down the rebound for Auburn to set up the winning basket.
Both teams struggled from the field in the early stages. Baylor hit only two of its first 11 attempts, while Auburn was 4-for-19 and took a 9-8 lead with just under 12 minutes remaining in the first half.
The cold first-half shooting continued as the Lady Bears were 8-of-30 for 27 percent, and the Tigers connected for 31 percent, going 12-of-39.
