The American Red Cross is seeking donations of gift certificates, toys, phone cards, stamps and other items that can help local families who have loved ones serving in the military in war zones.

Donations have supplied the Quality of Life program for military personnel themselves over the next three or four months.

Now, Linda Fink, director of Family Assistance and Labor Services with the Cincinnati Red Cross chapter, said they are turning their attention homeward.

"Taking care of our military families is equally important,'' Fink said.

Packages will be distributed in the Greater Cincinnati area and can include grocery store gift certificates, new toys, books and stuffed animals; stationery; stamps and prepaid phone cards. Emergency financial assistance can include rent and utility assistance, transportation, diapers and food.
