SWANTON, Ohio - Investigators have begun looking at radar data and interviewing officials from a company that suffered two plane crashes in the same day.
Nothing had been ruled out as a possible cause of the crash in northwest Ohio, although authorities have found no signs that a thick fog and mist helped bring down the cargo plane, a federal investigator said. .
"At this point, I don't see anything there," said National Transportation Safety Board investigator Bob Hancock. "There were other planes landing at that time."
The plane was one of two French-built Dassault Aviation Falcon 20s owned by Grand Aire Inc. that crashed Tuesday, about five hours apart.
All three crew members died in the crash near Toledo. Two company employees were injured in the second crash near downtown St. Louis.
An investigator in Missouri said Thursday that a preliminary inspection of the plane that crashed into the Mississippi River showed no signs of mechanical problems.
Federal and local authorities have said the twin-engine plane, which carried automotive seat cushions, apparently had run out of fuel. However, John Brannen, a Chicago-based NTSB investigator, said he couldn't speculate on that issue because his inquiry still was unfolding.
Brannen said NTSB investigators have found no connection between the two crashes.
Grande Aire, which operates 10 to 15 flights a day from Toledo and has about 50 employees, suspended all flights Wednesday. Grand Aire delivers cargo and operates a charter passenger service.
