McGrady wins NBA scoring title
NEW YORK - Tracy McGrady won his first NBA scoring title, and Ben Wallace led the league in rebounding for the second straight season.
McGrady, the star guard of the Orlando Magic, averaged 32.1 points during the regular season, which ended Wednesday night. McGrady ended Allen Iverson's two-year run as the top scorer. Kobe Bryant of the Los Angeles Lakers was second at an even 30.0, and Philadelphia's Iverson was third at 27.6.
Wallace, of the Detroit Pistons, averaged 15.4 rebounds, bettering last season's mark of 13.0. It was the highest rebound average since Dennis Rodman had 16.1 in the 1996-97 season.
New Jersey point guard Jason Kidd led in assists with 8.9, the fourth time in five years he's led in that category. His other assist titles came with Phoenix.
Eddy Curry of Chicago had the best field goal percentage at .585. Shaquille O'Neal of the Lakers led the previous five years.
The most accurate foul shooter was Allan Houston of New York at .919. The best 3-point shooter was Bruce Bowen of San Antonio at .441. Iverson led in steals for the third consecutive year, averaging 2.7.
Theo Ratliff of Atlanta was the leader in blocks at 3.2 a game.
