CALVERT CITY, Ky. - A woman and her son have been charged with tampering with evidence and abuse of a corpse after police discovered a dead, partially clothed woman in the back seat of their car.
Beverly Blakney, 51, of Benton, and Angel Blakney, 26, of Calvert City, were taken to the Livingston County Jail late Friday, and could face further charges, said Livingston County Sheriff's Deputy John Gabbard.
Authorities identified the dead woman as Glenda L. Howard, 32, of Paducah.
An autopsy on the body is scheduled for today.
On Friday about 11 p.m., Gabbard was working a checkpoint on Ky. 453 a mile south of Grand Rivers in Livingston County. Gabbard said he spotted Howard lying in the back seat of the Blakney's car.
The Blakneys, Gabbard said, told him they were not aware that Howard was dead.
They told Gabbard that she had passed out from being under the influence, Gabbard said.
Livingston County Coroner Jeff Armstrong said Howard's body had no apparent physical wounds.
Preliminary tests suggested that Howard had been dead about four hours when Gabbard found her.
Angel Blakney also was charged with driving under the influence of a controlled substance, possibly prescription medication, and his mother was charged with public intoxication with a controlled substance, Gabbard said.
