Marine Lance Cpl. Jarrod T. Breeden, 25, of Burlington, is a 1996 graduate of Simon Kenton High School. He is the son of Debi Horuzy of Taylor Mill.
According to his mother:
When Breeden gets done policing Iraq, he wants to take on policing Northern Kentucky.
Breeden is in Iraq as a member of Military Police Company A, a Marine reserve company based in Lexington, and has been attached to the U.S. Army's 101st Airborne Division as it operates in and around Baghdad.
When her Marine reservist son comes home, he wants to pursue a career in law enforcement in Northern Kentucky.
"He's a good kid; he has always talked about wanting to be a policeman," Horuzy said.
She was surprised three years ago when he came to her and said he planned to join the Marines. "He said, 'You are the only person who could possibly talk me out of it,' and I said, "Go for it."
Breeden has a wife, Krista, at home, a brother and a sister.
Horuzy said she has not heard from her son recently, but said her daughter-in-law got a two-minute phone call that was cut short by a sandstorm.
"He was only on long enough to say he was OK," she said.
"That's what we wanted to hear."
