A Story of Stories: Joan Mermelstein was born in Hungary in 1927. Two British soldiers carried her out of the Bergen-Belsen concentration camp on a stretcher. Those who liberated the camp found her sister dead and Joan near death. As she was lifted onto the ship that would take her to the hospital, one of the soldiers put something in her pocket. They were five photographs that he had taken of the camp.
